STILL LIFE

I’ve heard people refer to still life painting as ‘boring’.  This is certainly not the case with me.  When I study a still life, I mean really study it, I see shapes, then values. The more I look at the objects, I begin to see colours, which in turn are broken down into values amongst themselves.  Colours may be part of the object itself or may come from a reflection.  How is this boring!!!  Once you learn to truly see the shapes, values and colours of an object you can replicate it.  This ability to SEE can then be applied to portrait painting, landscape painting… any type of painting.  I enjoy still life painting.
